To Heal or To Fix? That Really Is the Question

Many times, we follow ourselves into believing that every move that we make is in service to healing. In actuality we’re frantically searching for ways to put a Band-Aid on a bullet wound

Fixing

A short term solution to problems that need long term

Healing

A long term solution that produces a resolution that is once and for all.

What’s the Differerence?

Fixing

Usually is perpetuated by a crisis

Triggers a reactive response

Activates overwhelming worry, shame, guilt, and concern of being “found out.”

Initiates fight/flight/freeze response

Costs time, energy, and financial resources to maintain

Never fully executed and needs frequent attending to because you can never really be done with it.

Ego is in the driver’s seat telling you that “no matter what, we must save face.”

Healing

Chooses an insightful response

Causes you to pause, take a step back, and become quiet

triggers lots of deep self-reflection, some of it might be painful

activates self-soothing responses as opposed to lashing out

encourages a willingness to work through the discomfort

results in choices that cause release, relief, exhalations, and resolutions that bring you closer to life goals, self-fulfillment, and overall balance.

Just For Kicks & Giggles

It’s Monday. Try to keep a small tally of the psychological problems that come up for you today. They can be negative self-talk, speaking without discernment, engaging in addictions. Keep a tally of whether or not your decisions fix or heal the problem.
